Metal Wind is wind blowing across sheet metal or through the gaps of a corrugated shed: a hard, ringing whistle with a hollow, metallic color that plain noise never has. Gusts arrive, hold briefly and drop away, with a slower swell moving underneath them. It is deliberately unsettling, and it works best in a mix rather than on its own for hours.
The color is exactly 2, white. A comb filter with a 3 millisecond delay and 75 percent feedback at a 40 percent mix adds resonant peaks spaced about 333 Hz apart, which gives the metallic ring. The envelope rises in 0.8 seconds, holds for 2 at 90 percent and releases over 1.5, a cycle of four and a half seconds, and a triangle pulse at 0.15 Hz swells every six or seven seconds.
It is a sound-design and atmosphere preset more than a relaxation one. Hollow Tube uses a longer 8 millisecond comb for a lower, woodier tone, and Mountain Wind in the nature category is the same gusting idea without any filtering. Try it under a darker preset for a hint of metal without giving up the low end.
