About This Sound

Midnight Hum sounds like the low drone of a ship or an old building at night: a steady, warm rumble with a subtle tide in it. The grey EQ evens out the spectrum so the sound feels centred rather than sitting entirely in the bass, which many people describe as more comfortable over long hours.

The color is 3.85, close to brown with a trace of pink texture on top, and grey equalization is switched on. A sine pulse at 0.06 Hz rises and falls once roughly every 16 or 17 seconds, slow enough that the motion registers as atmosphere rather than a beat. The fade-in is 20 seconds.

It is a good middle ground for people who tried Night Cocoon and wanted something a fraction brighter and a little quicker in its cycle. Against Womb Sound, which is full brown pulsing every twelve seconds, Midnight Hum is lighter and drifts more slowly. It also works well at very low volume on a bedside speaker.

Best Used For

Try this: Add a small amount of medium reverb, around 20 percent, to give the hum a sense of being in a larger space.
