Distant Thunder is a slow series of far-off rumbles: each one arrives quickly, tails away over several seconds, and is followed by a quiet stretch before the next. It sounds like a storm on the horizon rather than overhead, all low end and no crack.
The color is full brown at 4 with grey EQ on to keep the bass from swamping everything. The envelope loop attacks in just 0.2 seconds, decays over 2 seconds to a low 30 percent sustain, holds for 2 seconds and releases over 5, giving a cycle of about nine seconds. A triangle pulse at 0.08 Hz adds a slower undertow.
It is popular with people who like storm sounds but want them soft enough to sleep through. Seaside Cave is a smoother, grey-equalized sibling at 3.8, and Slow Swell in the textured category is the same brown color with a much gentler 21-second cycle. Of the three, this is the only one with a sharp attack.
