About This Sound

Alpha Waves is textbook pink noise, the sound most people picture when they think of rain on a roof or a waterfall heard from a footpath. Every octave carries the same energy, so it feels natural and balanced without leaning either bright or boomy. There is no motion or texture layered on top, so what you hear is the color itself.

The color is set to exactly 3, pink, with a spectral slope of -3 dB per octave. Grey EQ is off, the pulse is off and the distribution is Gaussian, so this is as plain as pink noise gets. The five-second fade-in is slightly longer than the other focus presets to make the start less abrupt.

It is a good reference point when you are trying to work out which color you prefer. Flow State is the same idea at 3.2, a little warmer, and Standard Pink in the ambient category is the same color with a one-second fade. See the physics page for why pink sounds so even.

Best Used For

Try this: Enable grey EQ and listen for the difference; many people prefer one or the other quite strongly after a minute.
